Thomas J. "Goat" Barr, 59, of 885 Township Line Road, Seneca, died at 11 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at his residence of an apparent heart attack.
Born Sept. 16, 1947, in Oil City, he was the son of James Barr and the late Mary Rose Croyle Barr.
Mr. Barr attended St. Stephen Grade School and was a 1966 graduate of Venango Christian High School.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He served from June 14, 1966, through July 31, 1969. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Rifle Expert Badge.
Mr. Barr worked in the maintenance department at Pennzoil Refining Co. for 28 years, taking a disability one year before the plant closed..
He was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Barr's hobbies included camping, gardening and canning.
He was married in Oil City June 15, 1977, to Sharon C. Ware, who survives.
Also surviving are his father, James Barr, of Oil City; three sons, Erik Barr of Florida, Bret Barr of Natrona Heights and Bill Manning of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Forest, Tyler and Nathan Barr, Malaya and Izabella Barr and Sawyer and Alissa Manning.
He also is survived by one sister, Mrs. Gale (Pam) Wurster of Hermitage.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Barr was preceded in death by one son, Butch Barr in September 2005.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor of St. Stephen Church, presiding.
Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
