Born Oct. 14, 1926, in Forestville, he was the son of Homer Craig and the late Pearl Bell Craig Baughman.
Mr. Craig was a veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy with the rank of seaman first class, serving primarily aboard the USS Card. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters of Operation and was awarded the Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the European-African-Mid-East Service Medal.
He was employed as a brakeman for the former Cooper-Bessemer Corp. (Cooper Energy) in Grove City, retiring with 43 years of service.
Mr. Craig was a longtime member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Murrinsville where he served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Grove City.
He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post No. 852 of Harrisville.
Mr. Craig was married Sept. 26, 1964, Verna M. Vardyan McGallis Craig, who survives. They were married for 42 years.
Also surviving are two sons, Denis Craig of Phoenix, Ariz., and DuWayne Craig and wife, Barbara, of Forestville; one stepson, John McGallis and wife, Sharyn, of Grove City; three stepdaughters, Glenda Davis and husband, Pete, of Hilliards, Valerie Christie of Butler and Dorothy Frisk and husband, David, of Slippery Rock; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by one brother: Dale Craig of Columbus, Ohio, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Craig was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home Inc., Main Street, (Route 38), Eau Claire.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Murrisville with the Rev. Richard Thompson, pastor, presiding.
Interment will be in Epiphany Church Cemetery at Boyers. Military veteran honors will be accorded at the cemetery by Moniteau Ceremonial Squad.
